Los residentes decoran sus casas con luces y coronas de hojas otoñales.	Residents decorate their homes with lights and wreaths of autumn leaves.
Lucy, una niña de ocho años, sueña con ganar el concurso de la calabaza tallada más bonita.	Lucy, an eight-year-old girl, dreams of winning the competition for the most beautiful carved pumpkin.
Se pasa horas imaginando la forma perfecta y dibujando modelos.	She spends hours imagining the perfect shape and drawing models.
Este año tiene una idea especial: crear una calabaza que brille desde dentro.	This year, she has a special idea: to create a pumpkin that glows from the inside.
Quiere hacer recortes finos y complejos para que la luz de una vela proyecte dibujos en las paredes.	She wants to make fine, intricate cut-outs so that the light from a candle inside projects patterns onto the walls.
Con la ayuda de su abuelo, Lucy elige la calabaza más grande del jardín y se pone manos a la obra.	With her grandfather’s help, Lucy chooses the largest pumpkin in the garden and begins her work.
Talla estrellas, remolinos e incluso pequeños animales, dejando agujeros cuidadosamente colocados para que la luz pueda escapar en todas direcciones.	She carves stars, swirls and even small animals, leaving carefully placed holes so that light can escape in all directions.
Llega la noche del concurso y Lucy, nerviosa pero orgullosa, coloca su calabaza entre las demás.	The evening of the competition arrives, and Lucy, nervous but proud, places her pumpkin among the others.
Los jueces pasan lentamente, admirando cada pieza, pero cuando llegan frente a la suya, apagan las luces para contemplar el efecto mágico de su calabaza iluminada.	The judges pass by slowly, admiring each piece, but when they get to hers, they turn off the lights to watch the magical effect of her illuminated pumpkin.
Las sombras bailan en las paredes y las estrellas centellean suavemente.	Shadows dance on the walls, and stars twinkle softly.
Cuando anunciaron los resultados, Lucy no podía creer lo que oía: ¡había ganado!	When they announce the results, Lucy can’t believe her ears: she’s won!
Lucy escucha cómo su abuelo le dice: «Has creado algo único. Cuando dejas que la luz brille desde dentro es cuando revelas todo tu potencial.	Lucy listens as her grandfather tells her: “You’ve created something unique. It’s when you let the light shine from within that you reveal your full potential.
