In Spanish, the preposition “de”  can contract.

de + el = del (masculine singular)

He comes from the market.

de + los = de los (masculine plural)

She comes from the United States.

It’s important to note that “de la” is used if the following word begins with a vowel.

de + la = de la (no contraction)

He comes from the school.
